I’m Anna, a Romanian living in London, United Kingdom, the recipe developer and photographer behind When You’re Hungry And You Know It.
One of the first memories I have of cooking is from when I was a little kid and would experiment with donuts with my grandmother. I still remember the tiny outdoor (summer) kitchen, the warm sun outside, being covered from head to toe in flour and sugar (way too much sugar, if you ask my older self) and our cat meowing her tail off in hopes of getting a taste.
Luckily, I’ve had some 20-30 years to improve my cooking skills and among other things am proud of the full shelf of spices, herbs and fruit peels I like to cook with.
About 3 years ago, when I started having IBS symptoms, my love of food kind of spoiled. Everything and anything could lead to an IBS episode. If you, your friends or family suffer from IBS, you know the feeling. Hence the name, When You’re Hungry And You Know It!
I started my Instagram page first and then this blog as a way to bring back the joy that tasty, nutritious and last, but not least, beautiful food can bring.
I’m glad to say I’m mostly symptom free and have learned so much during this time. Due to the many restrictions and in intolerances that come with IBS, I can’t say I favour any particular cuisine. Instead I welcome any new low FODMAP (IBS safe) ingredients and recipes I can get my hands on.
Stick around and I will share with you, all the tips and tricks I’ve picked up along the way, occasional ramblings and all my favourite recipes.
